SUMMER 2010 -
BUILDING OF NOBORIGAMA WOOD KILN
Phase I
At Studio
Adding to the gas reduction and oxidation electric kilns, Chris will be focusing his attention this summer on the beginnings of the first wood kiln at the pottery. With the new studio almost ready for patrons, this labor intensive project is slated to kickoff in July with construction of sheds, pits, and skeletons formed. Using reclaimed brick from a pipe and a glass factory, this noborigama style kiln will be built in reverse which strays from traditional kiln building practices. Chimney then last two chambers (glaze and salt ) will be built first for production of wares and then the first largest chamber will be built last next spring. KIln opening of shinos and salt is sheduled for Februrary 2011. To follow construction, check in with the blog or come by for a visit..
